the basics
we are a laid back but character and writing driven supernatural gpsl in akureyri, iceland. working under the assumption that akureyri, in its picturesque setting, has become something of a safe haven for supernatural creatures of all shapes and sizes. the humans local to the town are somewhat aware of their non-human neighbors, but not so much for it to be considered dangerous to anyone. at most they appear to think of their town as being a hotspot for random and unexplained phenomena and don't think too much on occurrences that they have more or less gotten used to. outsiders, however, tend to think any sightings or reports of strange events are merely the locals' attempts to bring in tourism. all of which inevitably leads to a quiet and comfortable place for supernatural creatures to set up shop.

the same applies here as does every other comm: no ic/ooc blurring, treat others respectfully, no harassment of any kind (doing so will lead to your immediate removal), don't plagiarize, and do not assume that because a character is one way that the writer is that way too. everyone's here to have a good time, so while drama in character is expected, that's where we want to keep it.

applying
applying is pretty basic here. you need an in character journal (no extra letters, numbers, or underscores), a cleared flist, backdated ic and ooc contact posts and a few basic details about your character. just something to touch on your concept briefly—name, age, occupation, etc are more than enough! we're not going to ask for biographies or blurbs and hope that this streamline process can help you get right into interacting and writing.

in reviewing applications we be paying close attention to your examples, so be sure to provide us with your best! please provide us with scene and narrative examples, preferably two of each. if your application is deleted it could be because you didn't provide something we required or we didn't think your examples showed you're a good fit for the community, in any other circumstance we'll comment you to fix your application. otherwise we won't be answering questions about rejections.

upon acceptance, please post an introduction to icelander within 48 hours. failure to do so will result in removal from the comm.

activity
we want akureyri to be laid back because we undersand that everyone has a life and no one can be around all day every day - that includes the mods. every community, however, needs active members to live longterm and akureyri is no different. every member will be required to post an update and an interactive post once a month. we strongly encourage your updates to be creative. we'd love to see narratives, photoshop creations, playlists that include written insight into why the songs matter/relate to your character, etc. please avoid blog style updates and instagram updates - these updates will not be accepted as your monthly requirement but can count toward your interactive monthly post if they're used to create discussion.

species and beings
for the most part we're flexible on what supernatural creatures may be brought into play and hope that this encourages everyone to be creative with their characters! all we ask is that there be some sort of wiki page or general reading available online for us, and likely others, to glance at. if you aren't sure if something is okay please feel free to ask in the dropbox, chances are it's allowed!

that being said, however, we do understand that there are a few more popular options with far too many versions and variations, particularly in mainstream media, so we'd like to establish what versions we'll be focusing on here.
vampires: less sparkles and more true blood based, vampires are the traditional sun fearing, blood drinking, fang popping creatures you'd expect them to be. you can assume that the general abilities, mentality, and culture of the vampires in true blood will apply to our universe.

were-creatures: similar to those in teen wolf (additional notes), a person can be bitten or simply born as a were-creature. while wolves are, obviously, the more common and popular take on were-creatures, they aren't the only option out there. the differences, however, tend to be based more on cultural and environmental factors—so it'd be more likely to find were-tiger in bangladesh or were-bear in alaska.

demons: like the demons of supernatural, they must find a host in order to partake in life above hell's reaches but they can easily jump from host to host if ever necessary. all things good burn, all things bad fuel them.

zombies: think more along the lines of warm bodies, wherein there are two distinct options of zombies with the first being intelligent, marginally decayed, and capable of regular human interact meanwhile the second option is brainless and tends to act on immediate instinct. unlike warm bodies, however, the two aren't connected as being different stages. they are entirely separate and the assumption tends to be that whether a person becomes the first or second depends entirely on how badly they were bitten, or eaten, beforehand. though, truth is, the zombie community is largely unsure themselves and try not to think too hard on it.
